Leaders of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) across the six Local Government Areas in Edo north Senatorial district converged on Iyamoh in Etsako West Local Government to reaffirm their commitment and support for the party.
At the enlarged meeting which had in attendance former national Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Senator Francis Alimikhena representing Edo north Senatorial district at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Hon. Johnson Oghuma and other APC party stalwarts, Adams Oshiomole thanked and commended leaders of the party from ward to local government level for keeping faith in the party adding that the unity of the party must be sustained.
He said no matter the challenges the country may be facing today, they should continue to have confidence in their leaders and pray for them. From Federal to State and at Local council level even at the ward level.
“I believe God will continue to guide us. By now you all are aware that the Supreme Court has finally brought to a close all issues arising from the last governorship election in Edo State and I know that, like every human being, that wouldn’t have been your best day. But in life, sometimes as you are running, you could fall into a pothole, you get up, continue and eventually get to your destination.
“There is nobody on this earth from the day he was born to the day he dies without having a kind of shock treatment. But as the saying goes, ‘Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.'”
Oshiomole encouraged all party loyalists not to be discouraged based on the results of last Edo guber poll.
He appreciated the commitment of some the Councillors who were denied their salaries for not decamping to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yet continue to stick with the APC.
“People like these give me courage. That at a time like this when most people think that every Nigerian worship money, I am the first to say, that is not true.
“We still have some Nigerians who believe in a course and will make sacrifice for the course. Those Councillors believe in All Progressive Congress, they refused to decamp.
“The PDP illegally withdrew their salaries as if they were appointed even though they were elected.
“We have Local Government Chairmen who remain faithful to APC, who now, have been removed from those positions. They went to court and the Court verdict so far indicated that they were removed illegally. Even the order that, they should be paid has not been complied with.
“There is one lesson here. Only the man God bring down, that is down. No man can bring another man down.” He said.
He appealed to all members to remain loyal to the party as the setback is only a temporary thing.
On his part, Senator Francis Alimikhena emphasized that members should continue to have faith in APC.
“By this time next year, there would be election for the Presidency and I can assure you that APC will clinch the presidency. Look at what is happening now. Even the PDP members are decamping to APC. So, if they are decamping, why should you leave APC?” The Senator queries.
He appealed to them to remain in the party.
“None of you today will decamp to PDP and will be given the position of a Chairman. He stressed.
Other party learders who attended the meeting were; Chief Lucky James, former Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Peter Akpatason, member representing Akoko Edo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
