The National Association of N-Power Beneficiaries (NANB) has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make public the full findings of its investigation into alleged corruption within the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
In a formal letter dated 2 May 2025 and addressed to the EFCC Chairman, NANB’s National Secretary, Bashir Ladan, stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in handling such serious allegations. The association warned that failure to disclose the findings could erode public confidence in the nation’s anti-corruption mechanisms.
“These alleged offences pose grave consequences for national development and citizen welfare,” the letter read. “Public disclosure of the EFCC’s comprehensive report would demonstrate a genuine commitment to accountability and restore public trust.”
The EFCC began its investigation after allegations of large-scale financial mismanagement involving former ministers Sadiya Umar-Farouk and Betta Edu, former NSIPA coordinator Halima Shehu, and contractor James Okwete. While the anti-graft agency has recovered over ₦30 billion, it has yet to publish a final report detailing its findings or prosecutorial decisions.
Launched in 2016 under President Muhammadu Buhari, the N-Power programme was designed to tackle youth unemployment by providing vocational training and temporary work placements to Nigerians aged 18 to 35. However, recent years have seen growing dissatisfaction among beneficiaries over unpaid stipends and a lack of transparency in the scheme’s operations.
NANB’s call comes as public pressure mounts for greater openness in the handling of corruption cases involving high-level government officials. The association also appealed for the report to be made accessible to civil society organisations and concerned citizens, describing such a move as essential for democratic accountability.
