The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed public primary and secondary school teachers across Oyo State to begin an indefinite strike over the continued kidnapping of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area.
The industrial action, which takes effect from Monday, June 1, follows growing concerns over the prolonged captivity of abducted teachers and learners taken from schools in the area.
The union said the decision was driven by fear, anxiety and rising insecurity affecting the education sector, insisting that teachers will remain off duty until the victims are safely released.
The strike comes after weeks of protests and calls for stronger security intervention following the abduction incident in Oriire LGA.
