Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of one of Africa’s largest Pentecostal ministries, Christ Embassy, is at the centre of new revelations suggesting he presides over a fast-growing business empire spanning banking, fintech, healthcare and social media, all reportedly operated through a dedicated commercial arm within the church.

Information emerging on Saturday night indicates that Christ Embassy’s Department of Commerce oversees a cluster of corporate ventures linked to the influential pastor, raising fresh debate about the increasingly blurred line between mega-ministry leadership and multimillion-dollar enterprise.

According to the findings, Pastor Chris is associated with Parralex Bank, a national commercial bank licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, with branches across the country. All Christ Embassy branches nationwide are said to be required to maintain accounts with the bank, embedding the institution deep within the church’s financial architecture.

The ministry’s business footprint appears to extend far beyond banking. Its state-of-the-art LoveWorld Medical Centre anchors a growing healthcare operation; KingsChat, the church’s own social media platform, serves millions of users; and KingsPay, a digital payment service, has been positioned in the competitive terrain dominated by fintech giants such as Paystack and Flutterwave.

Insiders describe the structure as a consolidated commercial ecosystem operating under Christ Embassy’s umbrella, with the Senior Pastor exercising significant influence through the church’s commerce department.

Analysts say the rapid expansion, particularly the meteoric rise of Parralex Bank in the last three years, underscores the increasing role of faith-based institutions as economic power blocs, with the potential to shape markets and consumer behaviour well beyond their congregations.

The development has sparked renewed national discussion on transparency, financial oversight, and the evolving identity of Nigeria’s mega-churches. Supporters view the ventures as evidence of innovation and economic empowerment. Critics argue that the growing fusion of ministry and corporate enterprise raises questions about governance, accountability and regulatory boundaries.

For now, Pastor Chris remains one of the most powerful figures straddling Nigeria’s religious and business spheres, a man leading prayers in the morning while presiding, directly or indirectly, over a sprawling commercial network by night.

As his influence deepens across both worlds, the coming years may determine whether his expanding empire reshapes the public conversation on faith, finance and power in modern Nigeria.
