The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has warned that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could face expulsion from the party if ongoing political tensions in the State remain unresolved.
The party has accused Wike, a former governor of the state, of actions that undermine its integrity and interests. Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, PDP’s acting state chairman, Robinson Ewor, stated that Wike’s recent conduct had brought disrepute to the party.
Ewor also criticised the Supreme Court’s ruling, which upheld the membership of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers in the PDP, despite their open defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He insisted that the verdict was flawed, arguing that the lawmakers had clearly switched allegiance.
Further questioning Wike’s commitment to the PDP, Ewor asserted that the minister’s role in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration signified a shift in loyalty. “One cannot serve two masters,” he remarked, suggesting that Wike’s continued affiliation with the ruling party contradicts PDP principles.
According to Ewor, the party leadership at both the state and national levels will determine the appropriate course of action in due time. This could include disciplinary measures such as suspension or outright expulsion.
He urged Wike to de-escalate political tensions in Rivers State and allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to focus on governance without interference.
The crisis in Rivers State has intensified in recent months, with the PDP facing internal divisions and power struggles.
