The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several of its members over what it described as gross misconduct and disloyalty, following their open endorsement of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The decision was announced on Thursday by Segun Edwards, spokesperson for the PDP Elders Caucus and chairman of the party in one of Lagos State’s 20 local government areas. Edwards made the announcement at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held to review the outcome of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja last week.
According to Edwards, party elders and local government chairmen unanimously resolved to expel the members with immediate effect, citing their public alignment with a rival party as a direct violation of PDP’s constitution and values.
“The affected people openly aligned themselves with the ADC, in direct contravention of party discipline and loyalty,” he said. “Such actions are incompatible with our principles, and the stakeholders unanimously passed a motion for their immediate expulsion.”
The meeting also mandated all local government PDP chairmen to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the party’s upcoming congresses, which are scheduled to take place between September and November. These internal elections will cover all levels of the party structure, from the wards to the national convention.
PDP leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the party in Lagos State and issued a stern warning that further acts of indiscipline would attract swift and severe consequences.
Party insiders noted that the expulsion was part of a broader effort to consolidate internal unity and ensure that only loyal and active members participate in the forthcoming restructuring process.
