Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Doyin Okupe, describing it as a significant loss to Nigeria.
In a heartfelt message shared on his official X handle, Obi extended his condolences to Okupe’s family and the wider Nigerian political community. He highlighted Okupe’s longstanding contributions to national discourse and governance, acknowledging his commitment to a better Nigeria.
“With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr Doyin Okupe. On behalf of the family and the Obidient family, I sincerely mourn his passing,” Obi stated.
He urged supporters and well-wishers to keep Okupe’s family in their prayers and to honour his memory.
Okupe, a veteran political figure, passed away on Friday morning after battling a prolonged illness, reportedly cancer. His death has been met with tributes from various political leaders and associates, who have lauded his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
