The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that the controversial ₦100 million paid into the bank account of Victor Egbetokun, son of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, was a banking error that was quickly corrected.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the transfer was discovered and reported by Victor himself, who immediately instructed that the money be reversed.
According to Hundeyin, the police contacted the IGP’s son after allegations surfaced online that the funds came from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account. Victor reportedly provided his bank statement showing the transaction had been returned.
The police spokesperson added that the account involved has since been closed to prevent further issues, while Victor has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the allegation.
The NPF maintained that there was no wrongdoing by either Victor or the IGP, describing the incident strictly as a mistaken payment that was promptly reversed to the originating account.
