The Edo State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on violent crime, rescuing three kidnap victims and arresting armed robbery suspects in a series of swift, high-risk operations across the State.
In the most dramatic incident, operatives of the Irrua Division on 29 November stormed the forests around Idumobi Community to rescue 52-year-old farmer, Rose Aigbokhan, who was abducted while working on her farm earlier that morning. Working alongside the Edo State Security Corps and local hunters, officers came under heavy fire from the kidnappers but repelled the attack. One suspect was shot dead during the exchange, and a locally made shotgun and cutlass were recovered. Mrs Aigbokhan was freed unharmed, while police say a manhunt is underway for the remaining gang members.
A day earlier, on 28 November, officers from the Iyamho Division arrested two young men accused of robbing a resident, Godwin Anthony, at gunpoint the previous night. The suspects — 22-year-old Emmanuel Osigbehe and 24-year-old John Victor — allegedly attacked the victim while riding a motorcycle. The police recovered a laptop, an Android phone and the locally made shotgun said to have been used in the robbery. The third suspect escaped but is being actively pursued, according to the Command.
In a separate operation in the Iyamho axis, a joint security team drawn from the Police Mobile Force, the Edo State Security Corps, vigilante groups and local hunters rescued two brothers abducted while travelling the previous day. The first victim, Abraham, 25, managed to escape and led officers to the kidnappers’ hideout. Faced with the advancing rescue team, the gang fled, abandoning the second victim, 19-year-old Jessy. Both men have since been reunited with their family.
The Police Command said the coordinated operations reflect its renewed determination to dismantle criminal networks and protect residents across Edo State. It urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly.
