Police Launch Manhunt After Video Shows Alleged Kidnap of Edo Couple

The Edo State Police Command has launched an urgent manhunt for suspected kidnappers following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing a couple abducted in Aviele, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Command said it immediately activated operational and investigative mechanisms after becoming aware of the disturbing footage trending on social media platforms.

The Command disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident and directed specialised teams to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the swift arrest of those responsible.

According to the police, anyone found to be complicit in the alleged abduction either directly or indirectly will be arrested and prosecuted in line with extant laws.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.

“The Edo State Police Command remains unwaveringly committed to the protection of lives and property,” the statement assured.

The update was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, on behalf of the Edo State Command, and dated 28 November 2025.

Police sources said further developments will be communicated as the operation progresses.
