The Edo State Police Command has deployed officers to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) state secretariat in Benin City following an overnight attack by suspected political thugs, in a move aimed at preventing further violence and restoring calm.
The incident occurred at about 8:55 pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, when hoodlums reportedly stormed the party’s secretariat and vandalised properties within the premises.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the swift police intervention followed a distress call received by the Control Room in Benin, alerting officers to the ongoing attack.
According to her, police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy and secure the area.
“Preliminary assessment revealed malicious damage to party flags and two shattered windows within the premises,” the statement said.
ASP Ikoedem noted that security personnel have since been stationed at the secretariat to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the act.
She warned miscreants against engaging in what she described as heinous acts, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.
The command also commended members of the public for promptly alerting the police, noting that the timely distress call helped to contain the situation.
It further encouraged residents to make use of the police’s dedicated emergency lines whenever they are in distress, assuring them of rapid response and continued commitment to the protection of lives, property, and democratic institutions across the state.
