Prince Etafia Okozi: Remembering an Icon of inestimable value

Death, it is often said is not an end to life. But transition to a new world. This account for the reason dignitaries from all walks of life converge on Ogbona in Etsako West Local Government of Edo State to witness the two years Remembrance and Memorial ceremony of late Pa. Prince Etafia Victor Okozi, who died at the age of 70.

The event was held on Saturday May 29th, 2021.

Guests, who came from far and wide for the ceremony were entertained in a nearby field and in the compound of High Chief Richard Okozi JP, the second son of Pa Etafia Okozi.

At the event, groups, In-laws, agegroups, friends and families were sitted under well-arranged canopies and dully entertained by the great Afemai musician- Young Bolivia.

No doubt, Prince Etafia Okozi was not a perfect person. But he touched the lives of his friends, relatives and community people positively.

This is seen from the emotional and comforting words offered by his people during interviews granted to newsmen at the ceremony.

In his highly emotional statement, the Chairman of the occasion and village head of Ogbona, Chief Williams Uloko Side said: “This occasion is to celebrate with the Okozi’s family. I know Chief Okozi very well. That is the reason I am here because if the respect he had for the traditional institution. The time if mourning is over.” He said.

According to his son, High Chief Richard Okozi. He said that he was really a good and great man.

“We are celebrating my father because of what he did for me when he was alive. He is the reason for where I am today. The strong foundation he laid for me. That is the reason for the celebration to satisfy the people and his community.”

For former Etsako West Local Government Council boss, Chief Lucky James: You can see the man was a good man. That is the reason they are still celebrating his life even after two years of his demise.

“My advice to the children of the deceased I to emulate their father so that there own children will do better than them.”

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were: government officials, members of the police force, traditional rulers.
