Prof Igbe Ighodaro, a distinguished scholar in Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
His victory came after a closely contested election against Prof Matthew Arhewoh of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology.
Prof Igbe is a renowned academic, seasoned administrator, and mentor, with a wealth of experience in pharmacy education and leadership. Before his appointment at UNIBEN, he served as the Dean of the Dora Akunyili College of Pharmacy at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
During his tenure at Igbinedion University, Prof Igbe played a pivotal role in advancing pharmacy education, notably overseeing the accreditation of the Doctor of Pharmacy programme and spearheading various developmental projects within the college. His contributions have earned him the admiration and respect of both colleagues and students.
The staff and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UNIBEN have expressed their confidence in Prof Igbe’s ability to steer the faculty towards greater achievements. They have extended their best wishes for a productive tenure as he embarks on this new chapter of leadership.
