For many pastors, pastoring is a job, and not a calling. People take up jobs because of money and they take up a calling because of God or as a sacrifice. That is why Scripture says you can’t serve both God and money-Matthew 6:24.
Remove tithe from Christianity and the number of churches and pastors will drastically reduce. And not only will it reduce, but true Christ followership will become deeper. Sin in the lives of believers will be addressed and the congregation will become more Godly.
Many people erroneously think God is looking for crowds. He is not. Christ said if best-“Many are called, but few are chosen”-Matthew 22:14.
Also, Christ warns us that “Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it”-Matthew 7:13.
Sadly, people are unaware of the fact that God is more devoted to people who are committed to Him, than to those who are just interested in Him. We see this in 2 Chronicles 16:9 and Hebrews 11:6.
Do you know why sin is not addressed that much in today’s churches? I have been a pastor for a decade. We get sent the statistics. Please research this: The more you preach on sin, the more tithes and offering go down. The more you teach about prosperity, the more tithes and offerings go up.
This is also why you will hear with your own ears and see with your own eyes, these men of God condemn the Old Testament. But the same people will use it to justify tithes and scare their congregation into paying it. Not to the Levitical priests, as Numbers 18:20-21 teaches, but to them.
This is why I am a very strong advocate for pastors to have their own businesses. When your income does not come from your members, you can tell them the truth. But when you are dependent on them, you tell them what they want to hear.
I am a pastor. To be modest, I made money when my book became a Number One bestseller. Much of that money went to my members. I do not collect tithes from them. They give freewill offerings, but they are NEVER cajoled to do so.
This is the main reason why Paul was the most effective evangelist of the New Testament. He had a highly sought after business that made him financially sufficient to look after himself AND HIS CONGREGATION-Acts 20:34.
It is also the reason why Peter was the next most successful soul winner after Paul. Because Peter had a thriving business. Can any of you leave your business for three years and it will not collapse? Yet, Peter left his business for three years to serve Christ, and after the death of our Lord, he returned to that same business-John 21:1-3.
Peter and the brother’s James and John, were business partners. They had hired servants working in their fishing business, because it was so successful-Mark 1:16-20.
It was because of Peter, that the symbol of Christianity was a fish for the first 300 hundred years. It will shock many of my readers to note that neither Peter, Paul, James, or any other of Christ’s disciples, or the early church used the Cross.
The Cross was introduced to Christianity by the Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great, after he claimed to have seen a vision in the sky.
I strongly urge believers to hold fast to the warning in 1 Timothy 6:5-6:
“And constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
