The Rivers State Police Command has relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing a police outpost of their duties after suspected cultists reportedly renovated the facility and publicly celebrated its completion.
The development followed the circulation of photographs and videos showing members of the DNKI (Vikings) confraternity, reportedly operating under the Trans Marine Platoon in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, at the Abuloma Police Outpost near Okuru Junction on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The incident has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the renovation of a public security facility by individuals allegedly linked to a cult group.
In a statement, the Rivers State Police Command said it had taken cognisance of the viral reports and strongly condemned any action capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, warning that they must not become platforms for suspected criminal groups to gain public recognition or legitimacy.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered the removal of the two officers from their positions pending investigation. Both officers have also been queried over the incident.
The Command said a comprehensive investigation had been ordered to establish the circumstances surrounding the renovation and determine whether police personnel breached professional standards.
Investigators are expected to establish the identities of those who financed or facilitated the project, determine which officers authorised or approved the renovation, and ascertain whether the necessary procedures and security checks were followed.
The probe will also examine the extent of any police personnelβs involvement and determine whether the conduct of any officer compromised the integrity of the Force.
While acknowledging that legitimate community contributions towards improving police facilities are permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, the Command maintained that such support must not undermine police independence or professional standards.
It added that no donation or assistance would shield anyone from investigation or prosecution if wrongdoing was established.
The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, organised crime, unprofessional conduct and improper associations between police personnel and suspected criminal elements.
It assured residents that anyone found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the findings of the investigation and applicable laws.
The police also urged members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information to support security operations across Rivers State.
