In a bid to resolve ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has extended an invitation to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and his faction for a crucial meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Scheduled for 10:00 am on Monday, 10th March, the meeting aims to address key legislative concerns and foster dialogue between the executive and legislative arms of government. According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the agenda will cover four main points:
- Allocating a suitable venue for Assembly sittings;
- Settling all outstanding remuneration and allowances of Assembly members;
- Discussing the State budget and related financial matters;
- Addressing any other pertinent issues for the benefit of the State.
The invitation signals an attempt to ease political tensions in the State, particularly between Governor Fubara and allies of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The outcome of this meeting is expected to play a crucial role in determining the future relationship between the State’s executive and legislative branches.
