In response to the reported arrest of four individuals suspected to be linked to Boko Haram and their alleged plan to attack the residence of former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, security operatives, including soldiers, have been strategically positioned at key locations in the Dougirei area of Yola, Adamawa State capital.
A recent visit by journalists to the neighborhood revealed a heavy presence of security personnel. Despite the tense situation, residents seemed calm and went about their daily routines as corner shops opened for business.
Sani Umar, a resident of Dougirei, shared that initially, there was some panic among the locals upon hearing the news.
However, a neighbor reassured them, stating that Boko Haram’s capabilities had significantly diminished, making such attacks unlikely even in Yola.
Reports indicate that there were no gunshots or any alarming incidents during the time of the arrest, with news of the event reaching the public hours later.
A senior security official, who spoke to journalists, mentioned that the prime suspect displayed typical bold and fearless behavior associated with Boko Haram members during interrogation.
