The Lagos State police command has arrested a 27-years-old man who specialises on robbing people of their mobile phones.

The suspect was said to have within a spate of 14 months, had stolen 240 mobile phones through pickpocketing.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed in a press statement that, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when he, Ayomide Sikiru, a resident of Akala in Mushin, a notorious criminal hideout, picked a Tecno Camon 12 from the hand bag of an elderly woman while trying to board a commercial bus at Iyana-Oworonsoki bus stop in Lagos.

He said, after successfully operating the said elderly woman, the pickpocket, Sikiru, attempted to alight from the bus but was prevented by a passenger, who accused him of pilfering a phone and asked him to return it to the owner.

Sikiru’s denial and the ensuing heated argument attracted operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) who waded in, searched the suspect from whose bag was found the stolen phone.

Also found on him were an iphone 7 and another mobile phone.

Adejobi stated that owners of the phones had been contacted immediately, noting that, on interrogation, the notorious pick pocket made some startling revelations of being in the ‘business’ of for a year and two months after undergoing a tutelage under one Sakiru for 15 days.

Also revealed was that, he operated thrice a week, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
