The Senate President has announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Act will be reviewed. According to Godswill Akpabio, the EFCC is more of a persecuting agency than a prosecution agency.
He revealed this during the confirmation of Olu Olukayode and Mohammed Hamajoda as Chairman and Secretary of the EFCC respectively.
Akpabio also shared his personal experience, stating that he was targeted by political opponents in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.
He alleged that a baseless petition was written against him, and he replied stating that he would not respond to it.
However, the former EFCC Chairman leaked his private letter “with the stamp of the EFCC to an online news platform, Sahara Reporters.” Akpabio mentioned that the Senate will amend the EFCC Act to strengthen it and make the agency more effective.
