Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, has been honoured by Dr. King for his contribution to intellectual discourse on Africa’s economic independence and development partnerships.

The recognition followed the completion of Dr. King’s doctoral studies at Liberty University’s Helms School of Government in Lynchburg, Virginia, United States.

Dr. King’s doctoral dissertation, titled “From Aid Dependency to Economic Sovereignty: Rethinking U.S.–African Development Partnerships,” examines the need to rethink development relationships between the United States and African countries.

The research focuses on the transition from dependence on foreign assistance towards greater economic self-reliance and sovereignty for African nations.

Dr. King, who acknowledged Senator Imasuen’s intellectual insights during the course of the research, presented the senator with an executive policy brief drawn from the doctoral dissertation.

The presentation also recognised African leadership and perspectives from countries including Sierra Leone, Ghana and Liberia in the broader conversation about economic sovereignty and sustainable development.

The dissertation highlights the importance of reassessing traditional development assistance frameworks and exploring partnerships that promote stronger African economies, local capacity and long-term self-sufficiency.

The engagement underscores the value of intellectual collaboration between policymakers and researchers in shaping discussions on Africa’s economic future.
