Senator Neda Imasuen has dismissed rumours suggesting that he plans to step down from contesting a second term in the Senate, describing the claim as false and the handiwork of mischief makers.
The lawmaker representing Edo South Senatorial District said the speculation being circulated in some quarters was deliberately designed to mislead the public and create confusion about his political future.
In a statement issued by his media office, Moshood Karim, the Senator made it clear that he remains committed to returning to the Senate in order to consolidate on the legislative gains already recorded for the district.
The statement noted that Imasuen’s first term in office has been marked by active participation in legislative debates, sponsorship and support of bills, as well as consistent advocacy for the interests of Edo South at the National Assembly.
According to the statement, the Senator believes continuity in representation is critical to attracting more development and ensuring stronger influence for the district at the federal level.
It added that having spent his first term mastering parliamentary procedures and legislative engagement, Imasuen now understands the workings of the Senate better and is better positioned to deliver more benefits to his constituents.
“Senator Imasuen has learned the ropes and understands the legislative business. With this experience, he is in a stronger position to lobby for more projects and influence greater democratic gains for Edo South,” the statement said.
The media office further explained that returning the Senator for a second term would allow him to rise within the legislative hierarchy, thereby increasing his influence in national decision-making and his capacity to attract federal projects to the district.
It therefore urged the public to disregard the rumours, stressing that they were unfounded and politically motivated.
