On Thursday, Senator Shehu Sani officially launched two of his books at a book presentation event organized by the Orpheus Literary Foundation in Abuja.
The event was held at the main hall of the Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village in Mpape and was attended by writers, academics, students, international policy experts, and members of the public from different parts of the world.
The books presented were “The Village and the Vigilante” and “The Perilous Path to Europe.”
The works examine issues of leadership, governance, and the harsh realities surrounding irregular migration, particularly among young people seeking greener pastures abroad.
Speaking at the event, Senator Shehu Sani explained that the books were inspired by real-life experiences and the challenges facing society, especially the growing trend of irregular migration and its devastating effects on individuals, families, and the nation as a whole.
He stressed the need for honest dialogue and the development of meaningful policies to address the economic and social pressures pushing young people toward dangerous migration routes.
He cited examples of youths who perish while crossing the Sahara Desert in their quest to reach Europe, as well as women who end up in prostitution in foreign countries.
The book launch featured a panel discussion titled “The Economic and Social Impact of Irregular and Unrestricted Migration.” Panelists included Dr. Kabura Zakama, Dr. Lois Adams, and Owi Ocho Afrika, with Esther Adelana moderating the session.
Professor Emeka Anigolu delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of literature in shaping public policy and raising societal awareness.
The literary event also coincided with the presentation of a stage play titled “The Village and the Vigilante,” written by Senator Shehu Sani and directed by Jibril Ahmed.
Organizers described the book launch as a significant contribution to Nigeria’s literary and intellectual space, noting that it reflects Senator Shehu Sani’s continued commitment to social justice, education, and public enlightenment aimed at safeguarding the lives of young people.
The event was open to the public and attracted a large audience, underscoring the growing interest in literature as a platform for engaging with contemporary national issues.
