Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has emerged as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for 8 November 2025. The governor was confirmed as the party’s flagbearer at a primary election held in Awka on Saturday, where he received unanimous support from more than 300 delegates.
Professor Soludo, who has led Anambra since March 2022, will be seeking a second term in office under the APGA banner. His unopposed nomination signals a strong show of unity within the party, as members and delegates rallied behind his candidacy in what was widely seen as a foregone conclusion.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor has drawn commendation from party members and supporters for his reform-driven governance, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, educational advancement, and internal revenue generation. His administration has also launched major urban renewal projects and embraced digital innovations, earning both plaudits and criticism.
Observers note that APGA’s endorsement of Soludo reflects not only his personal performance but also the party’s entrenched dominance in Anambra politics. Since Peter Obi’s historic win in 2006, APGA has maintained continuous leadership in the state, reinforcing its status as the region’s leading political force.
With the party’s internal process concluded and no challengers emerging, Soludo now sets his sights on the wider electoral campaign. He is expected to present his administration’s achievements as the foundation for a renewed mandate, promising to deepen reforms and deliver further progress if re-elected.
The campaign trail ahead will test APGA’s enduring popularity and Soludo’s ability to galvanise broader voter support beyond the party’s base.
