The people of South Ibie Kingdom gathered on Friday at Oshiozekhai Primary School, Iyakpi in Etsako West Local Government of Edo State, to witness the coronation of HRH Umoru Inusa Umoru as Aidonogie II of South Ibie.
The ceremony included the official presentation of the Staff of Office, marking the new monarch’s formal ascension and commitment to his role as the leader of the South Ibie people.
During his coronation speech, HRH Umoru Inusa Umoru pledged to serve his kingdom with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to both tradition and progress.
He assured his people of his dedication to promoting justice, strengthening security, and advancing the welfare of the South Ibie Kingdom.
Emphasising his vision for cultural diplomacy, the monarch stated that he aims to foster harmonious relationships both within and beyond his kingdom’s borders.
“I am committed to upholding our traditions and ensuring justice and stability within our communities,” he said. “Through cultural diplomacy, we will build bridges with our neighbours and secure a peaceful, prosperous future for our people.”
Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri, Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council, underscored the day’s importance, highlighting that HRH Umoru’s coronation represents a historic milestone.
Hon. Zibiri noted that the appointment brings much-needed representation within the Etsako West Local Government Traditional Rulers Council, which has struggled to function at full capacity due to longstanding litigations in several clans.
“This marks a new beginning for Etsako West, with all communities finally having their rightful leadership represented,” Zibiri said, emphasising the impact of the State government’s intervention in settling community disputes and restoring traditional governance in South Ibie.
The ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the region, including members of the Oyakhire age group, Dr. Alhaji Bash Azama, and musical entertainer Young Boliva.
Guests were also joined by notable traditional leaders, such as the Olokpe of Okpe, who came to honour the new monarch and celebrate this pivotal day for the South Ibie Kingdom.
