The Kogi State Government has received federal approval for the construction of an international airport in Zariagi.

Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, confirmed the approval in a statement on Friday, October 25, revealing that the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development granted it in a letter dated October 9, 2024.

Governor Usman Ododo, who has championed the airport initiative, is reportedly dedicated to ensuring its timely completion. According to Fanwo, the airport will serve as a critical transit point for 10 surrounding states, providing an alternative to the congested Lokoja-Abuja route and positioning Kogi as a strategic aviation hub.

“The Ododo Administration has prioritised the establishment of an international airport for Kogi State,” Fanwo said.
“The state’s central location presents a unique advantage in capturing a significant share of the aviation service market.”

The airport, designed to handle both passenger and cargo traffic, is expected to stimulate Kogi’s local economy, creating jobs and bolstering the state’s regional and international prominence.

Fanwo noted that Governor Ododo is committed to enlisting top industry experts to ensure that the project adheres to global aviation standards.

Expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Fanwo assured Kogi residents that the Ododo administration would continue to invest in strategic initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth across the state.
