Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has called on members of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) to continue displaying professionalism and responsiveness in their news reportage.
This appeal was made during the 18th Annual Conference of GOCOP, held at Reverton Hotels in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Governor Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, reiterated his administration’s dedication to working closely with online publishers to enhance the dissemination of government activities and programs.
He highlighted the importance of online publishers maintaining objectivity, fairness, and ensuring that information reaches both local and global audiences.
“As online publishers, you hold a unique responsibility in ensuring that your reportage remains responsive, balanced, and accessible,” the Governor stated. He further stressed that the collaboration between the Kogi State government and GOCOP would help create a unified and prosperous nation, offering diverse opportunities for citizens.
Governor Ododo also took the opportunity to spotlight his administration’s strides in economic development, particularly investments in road infrastructure and agricultural production.
He underscored the State’s potential in utilising its abundant resources for sustainable development, calling for unity among citizens to drive progress.
In his remarks, the Governor praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” particularly lauding the deregulation of the oil sector as a significant step towards revitalising the economy.
He also commended the state’s Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fawon, for his innovative leadership and for facilitating the GOCOP conference in Kogi State.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Mallam Yusuf Mamman, encouraged Nigerians to embrace online education, pointing to the vast opportunities available in the digital space.
He acknowledged the efforts of Governor Ododo and the conference organizers for their visionary approach in leveraging the internet for development.
The event concluded with a renewed call for online publishers to remain pivotal in shaping public opinion, driving national development, and ensuring that the Nigerian story is told with integrity and balance.
