A devastating accident along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road in Ogun State has claimed the lives of four prominent gospel ministers, sending shockwaves through religious communities across the nation.
Among the deceased is Evangelist Ayodeji David, widely known as Kekere Jesu, a respected figure in evangelical circles. The others who tragically lost their lives in the crash are Evangelist Iyanu Joseph, Opeyemi Adesina, and Monjolajesu Oluwapamilerin. The accident, which occurred during the ministers’ journey to a missionary assignment, has left family members, colleagues, and followers in deep mourning.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in an official statement released by Florence Okupe, the Public Information Officer of the Ogun State Command. According to the FRSC, the fatal crash occurred when the vehicle conveying the ministers was involved in a high-impact collision with another vehicle.
“All four occupants of the vehicle were confirmed dead on the spot due to the severity of the crash,” the statement read.
While further details regarding the circumstances of the collision and the identity of the second vehicle involved are yet to be disclosed, the FRSC has reiterated its commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly.
Evangelist Ayodeji David, or Kekere Jesu, had built a reputation for dynamic preaching and missionary work, often travelling across Nigeria to deliver the gospel and support rural congregations. The other ministers were also known for their dedication to evangelical missions, youth outreach, and community upliftment.
Tributes have begun pouring in from religious organisations, church leaders, and sympathisers across the country. Many have described the loss as a “huge blow” to the Christian faith and missionary efforts in Nigeria.
“It is heartbreaking,” said Pastor Emmanuel Adebayo, a close associate of the late ministers. “They died doing the Lord’s work. Their passion for the gospel was unmatched.”
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a local morgue, and arrangements for their burial are underway.
The FRSC has urged motorists to remain cautious on the roads, especially during long-distance travels, stressing the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, adherence to speed limits, and avoidance of risky driving practices.
