The Federal Government has invited officials of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to an emergency meeting over its proposed strike.
ASUP had directed its members to go on strike from April 6 over salary arrears, non-constitution of governing councils, โvictimisationโ, among other issues.
However, Adamu Adamu, minister of education, has scheduled a meeting with the union on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Ben Bem Goong, spokesperson for the ministry of education, the meeting is part of efforts to address the issues raised by ASUP.
โEducation Minister, Adamu Adamu, has invited the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to an emergency meeting following the threat by the Union to embark on strike,โ the statement reads.
โThe emergency meeting is to hold tomorrow, the 6th of April, 2021, at 1:00am in the Ministryโs Headquarters in Abuja.
โExplaining the reason for the emergency meeting, the Minister said the meeting is intended to nip the strike in the bud.
โIt will be recalled that ASUP has issued a notice of strike over what the union has described as the refusal of Government to implement some of the agreements entered into between the union and the Federal Government.โ
