President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s security agencies for their recent successes in tackling banditry, particularly the operations that led to the elimination of notorious bandit leader Ibrahim Bastuji in Kogi State.
The President, through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their efforts in protecting citizens.
Bastuji and some members of his group were reportedly killed during an operation while allegedly planning attacks on a school and residents of Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Tinubu described the operation as a major setback for criminal groups operating in the region, assuring Nigerians that his administration would not allow criminals to take control of any part of the country.
He said those who threaten innocent citizens through violence would face the full strength of the security forces, adding that the success showed the renewed commitment of security agencies to safeguarding lives and property.
The President also praised troops for rescuing Hajia Amina Rabe Abubakar, the widow of late former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), who was kidnapped in Katsina State.
Mrs Abubakar was freed during a military operation by troops of the 17 Brigade in Tunga Village, where soldiers engaged her abductors as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the area.
Tinubu described her rescue as a reflection of the bravery and professionalism of Nigeria’s security personnel, saying her safe return brought relief to her family and the nation. He expressed appreciation to troops who continue to risk their lives in the fight against insecurity.
