President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few more days, the Presidency has announced.
Presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 21, saying the President would remain away from Nigeria for a few additional days.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London to begin the working vacation before subsequently travelling to Paris, France.
During his stay in France, the President met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose business interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu has remained engaged with developments in Nigeria throughout the vacation and has continued to direct the affairs of government from abroad.
The Presidency cited the President’s directive for an independent investigation into the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as one of the decisions taken during his absence from the country.
The statement added that Tinubu had delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at several official engagements.
However, Shettima departed Abuja on September 20 for New York to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who has also represented the President at official functions, will continue to undertake such responsibilities, according to the Presidency.
On the political front, the statement said the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abubakar Yari, had continued consultations with prominent traditional rulers alongside other senior party leaders.
The Presidency did not give a new specific date for Tinubu’s return to Nigeria, saying only that his working vacation had been extended by a few days.
