President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to defeat poverty in Nigeria, admitting that achieving the goal will take time and require sustained economic growth, collective discipline and the creation of millions of productive opportunities.
Tinubu made the declaration on Thursday during his Independence Day broadcast, outlining his administration’s commitment to tackling poverty and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The President acknowledged that eradicating poverty would not happen overnight, stressing that the process requires consistent efforts and opportunities that enable citizens to earn sustainable incomes.
“I will defeat poverty, but it will take time,” the President’s message underscored, as he called for collective discipline and sustained growth to drive the country’s economic progress.
His remarks come as Nigerians continue to grapple with the rising cost of living and mounting economic pressures on households and businesses.
Tinubu maintained that creating millions of productive opportunities would be central to the fight against poverty, signalling the need for sustained economic expansion and policies capable of improving citizens’ livelihoods.
