Tolu Arokodare Completes Ajax Loan Move in £22m Deal, Snubs Serie A, Turkey

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has completed a season-long loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Dutch giants AFC Ajax, with the Eredivisie side holding an option to make the transfer permanent in a deal valued at £22 million.

Ajax will pay an initial £1 million loan fee, while additional performance-related add-ons will be triggered if the Dutch club qualifies for the league phase of a European competition during the season.

The move brings an end to weeks of transfer speculation surrounding the Nigerian forward, who attracted strong interest from several European clubs.

Sources close to the deal revealed that Arokodare opted for Ajax because the Amsterdam-based club presented the most convincing sporting project and had maintained a long-standing interest in signing him, even before his move to Wolves last season.

Italian clubs Genoa and Fiorentina, German side Hamburger SV, and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor were all credited with making approaches for the striker.

However, Fiorentina’s pursuit collapsed after both clubs failed to reach an agreement over the loan fee and the structure of wage payments with Wolves.

Despite serious interest from Trabzonspor, Arokodare reportedly ruled out a move to Turkey, distancing himself completely from the proposed transfer.

The agreement with Ajax includes an option for the Dutch champions to complete a permanent transfer at the end of the season if the striker impresses during his loan spell.

The move is widely viewed as a fresh opportunity for the Nigerian international to rediscover his confidence and regular playing time after a challenging spell in England.

With Ajax renowned for developing attacking talents and competing regularly in European football, expectations are high that Arokodare will use the platform to revive his career, showcase his goalscoring ability and strengthen his place in the Super Eagles squad ahead of future international assignments.
