Tragedy struck Popo Giwa, Ilorin, on Tuesday morning, September 1, after a three-storey building collapsed, killing four members of the same family and trapping several others beneath the rubble.
The building reportedly came crashing down in the early hours of Tuesday, trapping eight members of the family inside.
Emergency responders and rescue agents managed to pull four people alive from the debris, while four others were confirmed dead.
Among those rescued was a child identified as Firdaus, the second-to-last born of the family. His rescue offered a glimmer of hope as emergency teams intensified efforts to locate and recover anyone still trapped.
Residents said the father of the family was a serving soldier, while his wife worked as a casual staff member at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin.
The rescue operation remains ongoing as emergency responders continue to comb through the rubble in a desperate race against time.
