Transformer explosion kills 6 in Plateau

In the early hours of Saturday, a suspected electrical explosion occurred in Kabong Central Community, a suburb within Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives and leaving two others critically injured.
The explosion was reportedly triggered by a transformer, which set off a fire outbreak that quickly spread throughout the vicinity, causing extensive damage to shops and properties worth millions of naira.
According to a source in the community, the blast was so powerful that it caused shockwaves throughout the area, sending residents into a state of panic and fear. The resulting fire outbreak added to the chaos, with flames engulfing several buildings in the area.
The Spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident and stated that investigation has commenced to unravel what led to the fire outbreak.
However, preliminary reports indicate that the fire incident was caused by an electrical explosion in the area.
As a result of the incident, one of the injured persons is currently receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, while the other is receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
DSP Alfred Alabo also visited the family of the deceased on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Julius Alawari, to condole with them.
The tragic incident has left the residents of Kabong Central Community in a state of mourning and has raised concerns about the safety of electrical installations in the area.
