The University of Ilorin has bestowed the title of Emeritus Professor on three of its recently retired academics. This recognition, confirmed in a statement released on Thursday, was approved at the university’s 304th Senate meeting.
The honorees are Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, Prof. Olu Obafemi, and Prof. Musbau Akanji, who have all made significant contributions to their respective fields during their careers.
Prof. Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of the university, retired in October 2024 and is currently serving as the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Prof. Obafemi, a renowned scholar in English and Dramatic Literature, retired in 2020, while Prof. Akanji, a distinguished Biochemistry expert, retired in 2021. Prof. Akanji also served as Vice-Chancellor at both Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
The announcement was made by Mr. Kunle Akogun, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, who expressed pride in the institution’s decision to honour these accomplished individuals.
