Residents of Umueze community in Aba, Abia State were left in shock and fear following a gruesome beheading believed to be the latest in an escalating cult war between rival groups in the State.
The victim, identified as Miracle, also known by the street moniker Melody Burger, was a known member of the Aye cult group, also referred to as the Neo Black Movement (NBM). He was reportedly targeted and beheaded last Sunday by suspected members of the Vikings, also known as the De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI).
Naija Confra confirmed to Uptown Press that the Vikings cult group claimed Miracle was involved in the recent killing of one of their members. The group alleged that Miracle had been on their radar since the attack and had been under surveillance before they struck.
The retaliatory killing has caused renewed concerns among residents of Aba, who say cult violence in the area is spiralling out of control. Just yesterday, two more fatal attacks were reported — one in Umuojima and another in the Bakassi area — bringing the death toll from suspected cult-related violence in the past few days to at least three.
Community members are now calling on security agencies to intervene decisively and restore order. “We are living in fear. Every day, we hear gunshots or see young men brandishing weapons. It’s like we are in a war zone,” said a resident of Umueze who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Abia State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the spate of killings or the alleged involvement of known cult factions. However, pressure is mounting on law enforcement to act swiftly before the violence spreads further.
As investigations continue and tension remains high, community leaders are urging youths to shun cultism and embrace peace-building initiatives. Many are also appealing for improved intelligence gathering and community policing to pre-empt further attacks.
For now, residents of Aba remain on edge, praying that the bloodshed will cease before more lives are lost.
