Pledges Renewed Hope and Teamwork

The newly appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro, on Tuesday assumed office at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, pledging to drive President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by helping millions of Nigerians escape multi-dimensional poverty.
Dr Doro, who succeeds Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda recently appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—was received by the Minister of State, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, and senior officials of the Ministry and its agencies.
In his maiden address, the Minister expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, promising to promote teamwork, trust, and shared accountability in delivering public service.
“It is our job, as the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, to help people move up from where they are to achieve social mobility,” Dr Doro declared. “We will make hope a reality for the Nigerians we serve by collaborating, partnering, and holding ourselves accountable.”
Describing his predecessor as “a friend, a mentor, and indeed, a big shoe to fill,” Dr Doro said he would rely on the staff’s experience and institutional memory to consolidate ongoing reforms.
Welcoming the new Minister, Dr Sununu commended his appointment as “a boost to the humanitarian and social protection landscape,” while acknowledging the achievements recorded under the outgoing Minister, including the National Social Register (NSR), Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT), and the Skill to Wealth Initiative.
Permanent Secretary Dr Kofarmata reaffirmed the Ministry’s loyalty and readiness to implement the Tinubu administration’s anti-poverty agenda fully, assuring the new Minister of full institutional support.
Dr Doro’s assumption of office marks a renewed push to translate the federal government’s poverty-reduction commitments into measurable impact for the over 60% of Nigerians living in multidimensional poverty.
