What Oba of Benin Told Edo Governor-Elect Monday Okpebholo During Palace Visit

Benin City, Nigeria – His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called on the Governor-elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to fulfil the promises made during his campaign.

This charge was delivered during a special visit by the Governor-elect and his running mate, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, to the Benin Palace on Tuesday, where they presented their certificates of return to the monarch.

Speaking at the palace, the revered Oba expressed his gratitude to God for the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded election in Edo State. “We thank God Almighty for the peaceful election,” the Oba said.

“We are grateful that He heard our prayers, and we continue to fast and pray for calm and peace throughout the state.”

The monarch also took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in ensuring a smooth and successful electoral process.

“I cannot end without thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for making sure that the election was peaceful,” the Oba remarked.

During the visit, the Oba welcomed Okpebholo with open arms, assuring him of his continuous support. “This palace is open to you at any time, whether it is 1 a.m. or 2 a.m.; you can come, and I will see you,” the monarch told the Governor-elect.

Senator Okpebholo, in his remarks, explained that the visit was to formally present their certificates of return to the monarch as a mark of respect and appreciation for his prayers and support.

The Governor-elect was accompanied by several high-profile figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the Leader of the APC in the State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole; Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu; Senator Matthew Urhoghide; former Deputy Governors, Pius Odubu and Lucky Imasuen; APC State Chairman, Jarret Tenebe; and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, among other party leaders.
