Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of taking loans without the approval of the National Assembly.

Kingibe raised the allegation while expressing concern over what she described as a breach of due process in the borrowing activities of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The senator insisted that public borrowing must follow established constitutional and legislative procedures, stressing that the National Assembly cannot be sidelined in matters involving financial commitments on behalf of the FCT.

“Wike has been taking loans without the approval of the National Assembly,” Kingibe alleged.

The accusation has put the spotlight on the financial operations of the FCT Administration, with questions expected over the legality, terms and deployment of the loans allegedly obtained.

Kingibe’s claim is also likely to heighten political tension between the FCT senator and the minister, who have publicly disagreed on several issues concerning the administration and development of Abuja.

The allegation has renewed calls for transparency, accountability and strict legislative oversight in the management of public funds and borrowing by the FCT Administration.
