Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as the next Governor of Lagos State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 election.

The endorsement was announced on Monday, April 27, at Lagos House, Marina. In recent weeks, Hamzat has garnered growing support from political figures and community leaders across the state during a series of consultative visits.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, had earlier declared his backing for Hamzat’s bid.
Other prominent figures, including Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, have also expressed support for his governorship aspiration.

Few weeks ago, Governor of Ogun State also endorsed Adeola Yayi as the next Governor of Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement made available to Uptown Press, Hamzat said:
“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“His trust means a great deal to me. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly.
“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose.”
