The member representing Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, has dumped the peoples Democratic party (PDP) and officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC Thursday.
She was accompanied by her husband, 2face Innocent Idibia and was officially welcomed by NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, among other party members.
Her defection to the NDC is consolidating the spread of NDC across the country.
Also defected was the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Charity Aiguobarueghian alongside other political figures from Edo and Gombe States.
The defectors were formally unveiled at a reception held at the Abuja residence of the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
Others who joined the party include Dr Donald Eboigbe, a House of Representatives aspirant for Oredo Federal Constituency, and former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr John Yoriyo.
Addressing the new entrants, Dickson assured them of fairness and equal opportunity within the party.
He said the NDC remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, and inclusiveness, adding that the party is open to Nigerians who share its vision.
“The party remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of good governance, national unity, and inclusive development. It is focused on women and youth participation,” he said.
Dickson also warned against personal ambition overriding party interest, stressing the need for unity and structure within political parties.
He noted that the party’s national leadership was absent due to preparations for its national convention scheduled for Saturday.
The event featured the presentation of membership cards to the new members and a brief musical performance by Tuface.
Speaking at the event, Osawaru expressed optimism about the future of the party.
She said, “It has not been easy at all. But we thank God that we still have a leader like Senator Dickson. It keeps reminding me of where we are and where the country is supposed to go.
“It is obvious that the country needs to salute him and the NDC for this. I also believe that very soon, the NDC will take over the country.”
NDC has witnessed a mass influx of politicians and lawmakers after Peter Obi and Kwankwaso joined the party.
