The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has strongly condemned those who commit acts of violence and terrorism in the name of religion, declaring that anyone who kills innocent people while shouting “Allahu Akbar” is destined for hell.
Speaking during the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) meeting in Abuja, the Sultan stressed that criminals should simply be called criminals, not labeled according to religion.
According to him, terrorism, banditry and killings should not be mistaken for Islam, because such evil acts go completely against the teachings of the religion.
He also warned against ignorance and fake religious authority, stating that speaking Arabic does not automatically make someone a true Islamic scholar.
The Sultan urged Nigerians to stop fueling religious division and instead unite against criminality and violence threatening the nation.
