President Bola Tinubu has donated 20 trucks of rice to Edo State and other regions, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for distribution among the most vulnerable Nigerians.
The move is part of measures to combat hunger and alleviate food shortages in the country.
This announcement came after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, where the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, addressed State House reporters.
Idris detailed the logistics of the donation, specifying that each truck would carry approximately 1,200 25kg bags of rice, aimed at providing relief to those most in need.
“President Tinubu is committed to addressing the challenges of hunger and food insecurity in the country,” Idris stated. “This donation is a direct response to the increasing food prices and shortages that many Nigerian households are experiencing.”
The minister also acknowledged the concerns raised by citizens regarding transportation and the rising cost of food. He assured the public that the government is actively working on solutions to these issues and that the rice distribution is part of a broader strategy to support the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
The distribution of the rice is expected to commence immediately, with efforts coordinated to ensure that it reaches the intended recipients promptly and efficiently.
This initiative is one of several measures the Tinubu administration plans to implement in its fight against hunger and economic hardship across Nigeria.
