The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has acknowledged the presence of technical issues in the recently released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and has called on candidates to revisit the portal and recheck their results after 24 hours.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Department on Thursday, WAEC explained that a number of candidates had raised concerns over anomalies in their results, prompting an internal review by the examination body.
The council identified technical bugs affecting key subjects — Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics — and has since moved to correct the errors.
“WAEC sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025,” the statement read.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation — paper serialization — already in use by a national examination body. This was applied in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. However, a post-release review revealed some technical bugs in the results.”
The council has temporarily disabled access to the results portal to carry out necessary corrections and assured the public that access would be restored within 24 hours.
WAEC described itself as a “responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism,” adding that it was treating the matter with urgency and transparency.
“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public,” it added. “We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter.”
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in its assessment procedures and expressed gratitude to candidates and their guardians for their continued trust in the institution.
Candidates who had earlier checked their results have been advised to return to the portal after 24 hours to verify the updated information.
