The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Washington Osifo, has urged school proprietors across the state to review the cost of textbooks and other learning materials ahead of the new academic session.
Osifo made the call while meeting with school owners as part of preparations for the resumption of schools.
The Commissioner said the high cost of educational materials could place additional financial pressure on parents and guardians, urging proprietors to consider practical measures that would make learning more affordable.
He specifically advocated the reuse of textbooks by younger students, stressing that books that remain in good condition should not be discarded after a student completes a class.
“I don’t see why students shouldn’t pass their used books to their younger ones,” Osifo said.
He urged school proprietors to examine their pricing and ensure that the cost of textbooks and other learning materials does not become an unnecessary burden on families.
The meeting formed part of the state government’s engagement with school owners ahead of the new academic session, with emphasis on creating a more affordable and conducive learning environment for Edo pupils and students.
