Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, securing a commanding victory across the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Saturday through the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ekiti State, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi.
According to the final results, Oyebanji polled an overwhelming 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished a distant third with 12,872 votes.
The APC candidate dominated the election, winning in all the 16 local government areas announced by INEC, including Ado, Ikole, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti East, Ijero and Oye councils.
Ado Local Government, the state’s most populous council area, delivered 38,026 votes for the APC, while Irepodun/Ifelodun returned 29,278 votes despite the cancellation of results in one polling unit over an over-voting incident.
Other strong performances came from Ekiti West, where the APC polled 28,258 votes, Ikole with 26,508 votes and Ekiti East with 26,359 votes.
The result confirms Oyebanji’s return to office for another four-year term and further consolidates the APC’s grip on the Fountain of Knowledge State.
Political observers described the outcome as one of the most decisive victories in the state’s electoral history, with the governor recording a massive margin over his opponents.
With the declaration, attention is expected to shift to post-election reactions from opposition parties and preparations for the governor’s second-term agenda.
