FIFA has distributed a record-breaking $871 million in prize money following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, making it the richest edition in the tournament’s history.
Newly crowned world champions Spain received the biggest payout of $51 million after defeating Argentina in the final to lift the coveted trophy.
Runners-up Argentina took home $34 million, while England earned $30 million for finishing third. France, who placed fourth, received $28 million.
Teams eliminated at the quarter-final stage were each awarded $20 million, while those knocked out in the Round of 16 received $16 million apiece. Nations that reached the Round of 32 earned $12 million, and every team eliminated in the group stage collected $10 million.
In addition to the performance-based rewards, FIFA granted each of the 48 participating nations a $2.5 million preparation fee before the tournament kicked off.
The expanded 48-team competition marked a historic financial milestone, with FIFA rewarding participating nations through the largest prize-money pool ever assembled for a FIFA World Cup.
