WAFCON: Super Falcons Robbed at Morocco Team Hotel

Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have been overshadowed by allegations of theft after several Super Falcons players reportedly lost cash at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, where the team is camped.

The players allegedly accused members of the hotel’s housekeeping staff of stealing more than $1,220 from their wallets while they were away from their rooms.

Forward Esther Okoronkwo led the allegations, claiming on her Snapchat account that she initially discovered $500 missing before later confirming that the amount stolen from her wallet was $700. She further alleged that other teammates also fell victim to the incident.

According to the reported losses, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade allegedly lost $200, Osinachi Ohale $100, Joy Omewa $120, while Halimatu Ayinde reportedly lost $100.

Okoronkwo claimed the thefts occurred while housekeeping staff were cleaning the players’ rooms, alleging that the workers took advantage of the players’ absence. She also accused hotel officials of failing to provide satisfactory explanations when confronted and alleged that some staff became disrespectful during discussions over the incident.

The matter has since been reported to the Marriott Hotel management, with investigations said to be ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Despite the off-field distraction, the ten-time African champions remain focused on their mission of reclaiming the continental title. The Super Falcons are scheduled to open their 2026 WAFCON campaign against Malawi on Tuesday.

Neither the Nigeria Football Federation nor the Marriott Hotel had issued an official statement on the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
