Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election, Secures Second Term

Governor Ademola Adeleke has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes across the state’s 30 local government areas.

Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried 11 LGAs in the keenly contested election held on Saturday, August 15.

Declaring the final result at the state collation centre in Osogbo, the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, declared Adeleke duly elected and returned as Governor of Osun State for another term.

The election was marked by intense political competition, with reports of alleged vote-buying and other electoral offences prompting calls for investigations into some aspects of the exercise.

Shortly after INEC announced the result, jubilant supporters of the governor took to the streets in parts of Osogbo, waving party flags and celebrating Adeleke’s victory.

The result gives Adeleke another four-year mandate to continue his administration in Osun State.
