Thousands of mourners, traditional rulers, political leaders and dignitaries on Friday converged on Gumel, Jigawa State, to pay their final respects to the late Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani II, who died at the age of 85.
The funeral prayer for the revered monarch was held at his palace in Gumel Emirate following his death in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, September 3, after a period of illness.
Among the dignitaries who attended the funeral were Vice President Kashim Shettima and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, alongside prominent traditional rulers and political leaders who joined residents and mourners to honour the late emir.
The gathering transformed Gumel into a sea of mourners as tributes poured in for the monarch, whose death marked the end of a long reign in the historic emirate.
The presence of the Vice President and the Jigawa governor underscored the significance of the monarch’s passing and the respect accorded him across the State and beyond.
The late Emir’s death has left the Gumel Emirate in mourning, with residents, traditional institutions and political stakeholders paying tribute to his years of service and leadership.
His burial drew mourners from within Jigawa and beyond, reflecting the traditional and political significance of the Gumel Emirate and the wide network of relationships built during the late monarch’s reign.
